When regularly maintained with routine expert BMW service, you can count on your precision-engineered vehicle getting you where you need to go in style and luxury for many thousands of miles. If the worst should happen on the road and you find yourself with a flat tire, don’t panic! Courtesy of Fields BMW of Asheville, here’s everything you need to know about how to change a flat tire and get back on your way.

Stay Safe

Before you do anything else, you’ll want to make sure your BMW vehicle is in a safe location for changing your tire. Keep driving slowly and safely until you reach a wide shoulder or empty parking lot. When you reach a stop in a safe location, turn on your hazard lights, and make sure to apply the parking brake and wheel wedges to prevent the car from rolling while you’re changing the tire.

Remove the Flat Tire

Position your jack under your vehicle’s frame near the flat tire, and follow the instructions included with the jack to safely raise the vehicle about six inches off the ground. Use your lug wrench to turn the lug nuts counterclockwise until they can be removed. Carefully pull the flat tire towards you to remove it from the hub.

Mount the Spare Tire

Push your spare tire gently onto the hub, making sure the rim is aligned with the lug bolts. Mount it using the lug nuts you removed from the flat tire and tighten them by hand. Finally, you can lower your vehicle, tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench, clean up your flat tire and tools, and continue to the service team at Field BMW of Asheville to get your vehicle inspected and your tire replaced.
