If you give your BMW the care it needs, it will serve you for many years to come. However, even if you’re diligent about care and maintenance, it is possible that one of your BMW warning lights will appear on your dashboard at some point.

This is why it’s important to know what these lights mean so you can take the right action. These are the most common parts that will cause your dashboard to light up.

Engine Light

A light that looks like a submarine is meant to represent your engine. Issues that cause your engine light to illuminate can vary; for example, it could just be telling you that your gas cap isn’t tight enough. There may be a more serious problem that needs to be addressed, however.

Oil Light

If something that looks like an old oil can (or maybe a genie lamp) pops up on your dashboard, this is your oil light. The most likely reason why this light would illuminate is that you're due for an oil change. It may mean, however, that you’re low on oil; if this is the case, it could also indicate a leak.

Battery Light

A box-shaped light with a plus and minus sign represents your battery. When this icon lights up, it could mean that there’s an issue with a connection. It may also be a sign that your battery is not creating enough charge.

Tire Light

When you see an exclamation mark in a horseshoe-like shape, your car is telling you that your tire pressure is low in one or more tires. This system only gives this warning when tires are below 25 percent of the correct psi, so you don’t want to wait to have this checked.

If any warning lights have appeared on your dashboard, make an appointment with our service center at BMW of Asheville. We’ll diagnose the problem and figure out the best solution.
