Drivetrain and Fuel Economy
With the base sDrive version of this BMW SUV, you can get either rear- or all-wheel drive. Every other trim comes standard with all-wheel drive.
For its class, the BMW X5 gets very good gas mileage, both in the city and on the highway.
- BMW X5 sDrive40i – 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway
- BMW X5 xDrive40i – 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway
- BMW X5 xDrive45e – New for 2021, this plug-in hybrid gets 50 MPGe. It can also go up to 30 miles using only electricity.
