The BMW 8 is a Grand Tourer sedan that was available from 1989 to 1999. Of course, automakers are known for reviving previously discontinued vehicles. The BMW brand is apparently doing just that with rumors of a 2020 BMW 8 revival.
According to reports, the sedan's exterior will be heavily composed of the same combination of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber utilized in the BMW 7 G11. Also, much like the previous BMW 8, the revival model will also have an assortment of engine options. The word is that the German automaker is in fact developing a prototype for a BMW M8 and BMW M850, both of which were mainstays in the early 1990s.
Of course, the current BMW 6 series is also a grand tourer, which created gossip that a BMW 8 return may mean the discontinuation of the BMW 6. Others have speculated, however, that by the time the BMW 8 is released, the BMW 6 will have been restyled to take on a sportier look, thus putting it in a class of its own and putting it on a more competitive footing.
Aside from the BMW 8 release, the BMW 7 will be getting a new addition of its own. There's news that the company is working on a two-door coupe version for the series. Some are speculating, however, that this coupe is actually the BMW 8. Regardless, the prototype is reportedly being built on the BMW 7 platform.
