According to a survey by J.D. Power, the BMW automaker is the top auto brand with respects to buyers satisfied with the accompanying technology.

The study is the first of its kind and is called the Tech Experience Index. It consists of a survey that measures a car owner’s interaction with their vehicle’s technology during the first 90 days of ownership. There are questionnaires pertaining to different tech categories, including comfort and convenience, driving assistance, collision avoidance, smartphone connectivity, navigation, telematics, and entertainment.

This type of measurement is becoming ever more relevant in the auto industry. More car companies are aggressively competing based on how up to date their tech is, especially tech in the realm of safety and telematics.

It is no surprise that the German automaker came out on top. It has always experimented with new tech and gadgets. One of the more notable technologies was the then-controversial i-drive system released in 2001. At the time, it included an actual mouse to navigate the menu. Needless to say, it was not a success, but it did pave the way for better technology that we see today.

Both the BMW 2 series and BMW 4 series made the top list for their respective car segments. J.D. Power had a total of seven categories.

The study indicated that the most valued technology for respondents are the safety features that help lessen the chances of a collision. This is also the technology that buyers are most willing to pay extra for. This includes back-up cameras, lane-keeping alerts, and blind-spot warning.
