According to rumors, BMW is in the works of launching a new X3 model: the F97 BMW X3 M SUV. The X3 M was previously rumored, though according to sources, BMW is now finally beginning the production phase.
Supposedly, the X3 M is modeled after the next generation midsize SUV. It is also roughly 220 pounds lighter than the current X3 model. This is made possible due to the use of lightweight materials and a rear-wheel drive platform. Sources also say that the front portion of the vehicle will have a flatter appearance as well as be fitted with LED headlights.
Similar to the conventional M design, the new X3 M will have a lower stance, flared wheel arches, large air curtains, and a sculpted bumper.
When it comes to the interior, consumers have traditionally felt that this is where the X3 struggled. Apparently, BMW took note of this and will be upgrading the interior with a more luxurious cabin as well as incorporate more technical gadgetry.
Under the hood is a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that delivers roughly 500 hp.
The rumors also include the production of the F98 X4 M. Like the X3 M, it will also have a beefier exterior and possibly the same engine. Both the X3 M and X4 M are expected to appeal to a new demographic of compact SUV consumers.
