Spy photos have captured the next-generation BMW X3, and based on what can be seen beyond the camouflage, it appears to have some styling cues from the BMW X5 and BMW 7 series. It will adapt the latter's grille and headlights.

One of the more notable changes is the inclusion of two vertical aero blades just above the rear glass. This accessory helps improve aerodynamics and is a known staple in the current BMW X5. The blades also divert air down the vehicle, thus reducing wind noise for rear passengers.

The aero blades on the new BMW X3, though, do appear a bit smaller than the ones on the BMW X5. Visually, this is an improvement as the blades merge more seamlessly with the car body as opposed to looking as if it was tacked on as an add-on.

It has been speculated that the inclusion also means that other prominent features of the BMW X5 will make its way to the BMW X3 as well, such as air curtains and side-mounted air-breathers.

The upcoming BMW X3 will be facing some stiff competition in the market, so every bit of improvement helps, and the aero blades will certainly improve the commuting experience for both driver and passengers.

On the subject of the BMW X3, spy photos have also captured what some believe to be the 2017 BMW X3 M being tested on the roads of Germany. The M variant comes with a sportier quad-exhaust pipe, a rear diffuser, and larger front air intakes.
