The BMW i3 is the first of the German automaker's electric vehicles. The car is also receiving its first update this summer. While the 2016 BMW i3 has received mostly rave reviews, one of the ongoing criticisms has been its range, which is about 80 miles on a full charge.

For the 2017 model, the BMW i3 will receive an improved 94 Ah battery, which is a significant enhancement over the current 60 Ah battery.  The more durable battery will extend the range to about 114 miles. Drivers may even be able to squeeze in a few extra miles if they are conservative with use of the heating and AC system, or if the car is kept in ECO Pro+ mode.

The enhanced battery is made possible thanks to an increased density of lithium-ion cells. This raises its capacity to 33 kilowatt hours, of which 27.2 kilowatt hours can be utilized.

That is not all. The 2017 BMW i3 will receive a few other upgrades that will also come standard. This includes Comfort Access, 19-inch wheels, Universal Garage Door Opener, and Advanced Real Time Traffic Information.

There will also be a few optional add-ons that include a moon-roof and dark oak wood trim for the interior.

Aside from the improved battery, the BMW i3 is also making other headlines. The car has proved to be so efficient that the LAPD has just ordered 100 units for its fleet at a cost of $1.4 million.

The BMW i3 is certainly catching on with the public, as are other models like the 2016 BMW M3. Whatever you have your eyes set on, be sure to visit BMW of Asheville and speak with a BMW car dealer near Hendersonville.
