BMW has announced that by late summer 2016, its X5 SUV and X6 SAC will be fitted with an updated navigation system. The 10.25-inch screen will retain its original size, though it will be modified with touchscreen capability, which is not currently available in any other BMW model other than in the 7 series.
In addition, both models will also get the iDrive 5.0. This is the German automaker’s own navigation system that has received rave reviews and has drastically improved in recent years. Even with touchscreen capabilities, the system will still maintain its original center console. This includes the iDrive knob. Unlike the iDrive system for the 7 series, however, the one fitted for the X5 and X6 will not have gesture control technology.
With the navigation system in the 7-series, the iDrive operates much in the same way as some tablet devices. Aside from basic touch commands, users can also manipulate the controls using dragging, scrolling, and swiping motions.
Though it has not been confirmed at this moment, it is suspected that the X5 M and X6 M will be given the update as well. Speaking of the X5 M model, the X5 xDrive 30d M Sport was spotted at the Auto Expo 2016 show in India. It has some major exterior changes, including the M Aerodynamic Package that gives the SUV a sportier look. This includes a gloss chrome finish, alloy wheels, and three color options.
The 2016 BMW X5 is currently available. It does not have the iDrive 5.0 navigation system, but it still has a lot to boast about. You can also check out a pre-owned BMW model by speaking with one of our experienced BMW dealers.
