BMW has just released a new car-sharing program in Seattle and Portland known as ReachNow. The program is kind of similar to Uber, except the person needing a lift also assumes the role of driver.
So, how does it work? ReachNow was introduced back in April in a Seattle Airport. Essentially, people can rent a car from the BMW 3 series or BMW 5 series lineup, drive it to the airport, leave the car at a designated parking garage, and take a shuttle to the terminal.
The program was a success, with over 1,300 members signing up for the service in the first month alone. The carmaker now has plans to add another 120 vehicles to its existing ReachNow fleet.
The German automaker has now extended the program to the Portland area. Aside from the aforementioned BMW 3 series and BMW 5 series, the BMW i series will also be added sometime next year. The BMW i series is already available for use in the Seattle area.
ReachNow in Portland kicks off on September 6, and those who sign up will be able to test-drive the program for two weeks. The "Home Areas" – the areas where you can pick up and drop off your vehicle – include the Downtwon and Pearl District neighborhoods, Central Eastside, and the Convention Center.
Members who sign up pay a registration fee and then pay a per-minute rate. Those who register during the launch period will have the registration fee waived.
It is only a matter of time before ReachNow expands to other cities. However, if you prefer to own a BMW car instead of briefly renting one, then visit BMW of Asheville. Speak with a BMW dealer serving Hendersonville, NC to inquire about our full lineup.
