BMW has always been at the forefront when it comes to car technology. It is no surprise, then, that the auto maker has teamed up with the portable camera maker GoPro.

The two companies will be collaborating to create a camera system that will be compatible for the M-series. For those that occasionally take their M-series car out on the track, they are likely familiar with the vehicle's Laptimer technology. The timer serves multiple functions, including weather and altitude monitoring, and recording your best and average speed. The lap timer will also be able to control the GoPro-mounted camera. The video can then be relayed on an iPhone.

In case you are wondering, the Laptimer and GoPro system are not compatible with Android devices, though that could very well change in the near future.

Once the GoPro system is hooked up, a new tab will appear in the app where you will be able to view live images, check battery power, and monitor Wi-Fi signal. Once you complete a lap, you can review the video you just filmed.

The GoPro system for the BMW M-series will be available starting summer of 2016.

Even without the GoPro camera, the Laptimer is still quite impressive in its own right. It can create track maps and record all your lap times for a breakdown of your speed on specific parts of the lap. This is made possible using multiple sensors embedded all around the vehicle. The system will also post times to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
