The BMW X5 SAV is on the rise and has helped the German automaker reach better than expected third-quarter profits. Overall, profit margins have decreased slightly, achieving 9.1 percent profit margins, compared to 9.4 percent the same quarter last year. According to German analyst Sascha Gommel, however, the company is actually performing “slightly better than expected.”

Another analyst, Max Warburton, described the numbers as a “pleasant surprise.”

The upsurge of the X5 is no surprise, given the model’s rave reviews by test drivers, noting the vehicle’s efficient power delivery and effortless acceleration. Positive comments were also given for all three engine options: a turbocharged six-cylinder, turbocharged V8, and turbo-diesel six-cylinder.

Reviewers also took note of the SAV’s spacious front and rear seats, 10.2-inch display infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors, push-button start, and panoramic sunroof.

The first X series was released back in the mid-80s. The letter was the designation for models that utilized four-wheel-drive technology. The X5, specifically, made its debut in 1999 and quickly became a popular seller. In the Middle East, for example, the car accounts for 50 percent of BMW in the region this year.

During its inception, the vehicle made headways as the world’s first sports activity vehicle that performed equally well in off-road terrain as it did on the streets.
