The 2016 BMW 7 series just made its debut in Germany and will soon be making its way to the U.S. Car lovers have every reason to be excited as the sedan is expected to come packed with new cutting edge technology.

Thanks to the implementation of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, the 2016 BMW 7 series will weigh about 190 pounds less than its predecessors. The doors and trunk lid are also lighter and constructed out of heavy-duty aluminum.

American consumers can expect a U.S. release this fall. When it makes its inception, two models will be available: the 740i powered by a 320 hp, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, and the 750i xDrive with a twin-scroll-turbocharged v-8 engine that churns out 445 hp. Both models will utilize an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The exterior will also have a modified design. The front grille will include active shutters that seal off for improved aerodynamics and opens when the engine needs to cool. The past 7 series gave buyers the option of a standard or long-wheelbase version, though the 2016 edition will only be available in the latter for US consumers.

What about the cabin? This is where it gets really sweet for technology lovers. With BMW's iDrive interface system, a few simple hand gestures can control most of the functions from changing radio stations to receiving directions. Both driver and passengers will enjoy heated, ventilated and massaged seating as well as a panoramic roof fitted with LED lights.
