BMW was founded almost 100 years ago in 1916. To commemorate, the company is expected to release a new vehicle, rumored to be a beefed up version of the BMW i8. Some people are tentatively referring to the new model as i8S.
So far, here’s what is known about the i8S: It is expected to have a 300 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which will be an improvement over the 228 horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder currently in the i8. The i8S will also deliver about 450 hp and can reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. This is an upgrade from the i8, which has a hybrid drivetrain that produces 357 hp and reaches 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
To compensate for the added weight of a larger gas engine, the new i8S will cut weight in other areas. This includes a lighter body panel made from unpainted carbon fiber. The interior will also have a stripped-down two-seater cabin.
Other expected specs include bigger brakes, wider tires, and an upgraded aerodynamic body kit. Multiple color options will also be available.
Whether this new vehicle goes by the name i8S or not, it will for sure be a fascinating addition to the brand's long beloved i series.
