Your BMW does a lot for you. Sure, it offers outstanding performance and looks amazing sitting in your driveway, but it’s also designed to keep you safe. One way it does this is with built-in systems, including one focused on your tires. Learn about this system and how it will let you know if you need BMW tire service.
How Your TPMS Works
Your car's tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) keeps tabs on your tires at all times. It uses sensors that continually monitor tire pressure, and if it gets too low, you will get an alert.
What Does This Alert Look Like?
If one or more tires don't have enough air, an icon will light up on your dashboard. This will probably look like an exclamation point in a horseshoe, or you may also get an alert that reads “Low tire.”
What To Do If Your TPMS Notifies You
Chances are good that your car has a TPMS, as it has been a required feature for any model built after 2007. Of course, once you know that one of your tires is low on air, it’s important to get it back up to the right levels.
The TPMS only sends out an alert when the pressure is 25 percent less than manufacturer recommendations. So, by the time you’re notified, you may have been driving around on unsafe tires for a long time. Fortunately, getting air put in will quickly enhance your safety, performance, and fuel economy.
Due to temperature fluctuations, tires can often lose pressure. However, if this keeps happening to your tires, there may be another issue. Make an appointment with our service center at BMW of Asheville for a thorough inspection.
