There is a lot of news regarding the possible release of a BMW 8 series. The speculations started after an insider from the German Automaker supposedly released a classified document containing names and codes of possible future models. Among the names include the BMW 8 series, hence the fervor.
If true, then this would be a revival. The BMW 8 series was originally released in 1989 before being eventually discontinued in 1999. The model is considered a collector's item and is highly sought after by car enthusiasts due to their rarity. Only 31,000 units were produced.
The BMW 8 series is very similar in style and concept to the BMW 6 series. The former, though, is larger thanks to an extended hood and a sweeping roofline. It has been speculated that there may be coupe and convertible versions available.
All this talk has led to further theories regarding a possible BMW M8. There is no evidence as of yet that such a model is in production. It would also be a few years before such a vehicle comes to fruition if it is indeed in the works.
That is not all. The leaked report also contained discussions of a BMW M2 and BMW M4. The latter was released in Spain in 2016 as a limited-edition model.
Other models mentioned in the report include the BMW X3 M and a BMW M5 in a rear-wheel-drive variant. Both models would be a first for the German automaker. A prototype of the BMW M5 was spotted being tested, so that certainly lends some credence to the report.
