The current generation BMW X5 has only been out for three years. BMW generally releases a new generation model every five to six years, so the X5 is about halfway through its lifespan. A replacement, though, may come sooner than later as spy photos have captured a new X5 being tested under winter roads.
Being that there are only spy photos to go on, there is not a whole lot of conclusions that can be drawn at this point. As far as modifications go, experts believe there will be a significant change in power train, with a switch from the N55 to the B58
Since road tests are not normally carried out this early, it is believed that the X5 captured in photos is just an early test mule, meaning that many changes will eventually be made to the final product.
The early test model for the most part looks more or less the same in regards to proportion, though it does appear to be slightly more compact. The rear wheels are also nearly directly beneath the rear doors, indicating a shorter wheelbase. If so, this would be unusual since new models these days tend to have longer wheelbases compared to their predecessors. Bear in mind, though, that BMW has been implementing new carbon core technology, which may make it possible for designers to use a smaller chassis while extending interior cabin space. The current X5 is quite big even by SUV standards, so it is very likely that BMW is looking to create a more agile and nimble version.
Even if the new X5 comes out sooner than expected, it is still quite a few years away, so why not check out the 2016 BMW X5 in the meantime? You can also check out our BMW certified cars near Waynesville if you are considering other models.
