The much talked about X7 has long been rumored to be a larger cousin of the X5 with an extended wheelbase. BMW has confirmed that this will not be the case. The X7, in fact, will bear very little resemblance to the X5.
It has also been confirmed that the X7 will come in two styles: the standard seven-seater model and a smaller four-seater that will be the premium edition. The latter is expected to have a price tag ranging in the six-digit range. With that price tag, you can bet it will be one hell of Luxury SUV. Even with fewer seats, it is expected to be the same length, leading to speculation that the seats also double as recliners. There will also likely be infotainment systems mounted on the front seatbacks.
Early rumors suggested that the X7 will be built on the brand's Rolls-Royce platform. Those rumors have since been debunked. Doing such will be too expensive.
Aside from the X7, BMW has also announced possible plans of a new segment beyond the 7 series. This includes a possible 9-series. A new line of sedan is currently in the works and is expected to be much more than just a stretched version of the 7-series as was previously rumored.
Since it is not based on the X5, analysts now speculate that the new SUV will be similar to the 7 series but with a longer roof and additional ground clearance.
Though the X7 is still a few years out, you can check out the 2016 BMW X5 in the meantime by visiting BMW of Asheville. Speak with one of our Fletcher NC car dealers to learn more about the current and upcoming models.
