New All-Electric BMW Models Undergo Testing

In 2020 and 2021, BMW automakers will be introducing drivers to a whole new generation of electric-powered vehicles. In order to ensure these models are not only environmentally friendly, but also live up to the standards of excellence in drive experience, comfort, and more that we expect from every new BMW car, they are all going through intense testing. In March, the 2020 BMW iX3 and the BMW i4 and BMW iNEXT, which will arrive in 2021, went through a particularly intense stage of testing.

In order to make sure the models were adequate at tackling extreme weather and road conditions, BMW automakers took them right to the edge of the Arctic Circle. In Sweden, the electric vehicles were exposed to incredibly cold and icy surfaces. Automakers checked to be sure the high-voltage batteries powering the models could survive these temperatures, and that the electronics and suspension could stand up to the difficult road conditions. And BMW engineers have done their work well, with batteries, engines, and systems all demonstrating reliability and good performance even in these extreme conditions.

This is just one part of the testing that will make the new BMW electric models ready for drivers. When the BMW iX3, the first of the trio to hit the market, arrives in 2020, drivers will find a reliable, high performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) to rival any gas-powered models. The BMW i4 and BMW iNEXT will continue the tradition of taking SAVs electric without sacrificing performance or comfort.

For drivers who want to think of the environment without giving up BMW quality, there are electric models already on the market right here at Fields BMW of Asheville. Call or visit today and talk to a BMW dealer serving Hendersonville about the 2019 BMW i3 or the 2019 BMW i8.
