Spy Shots Reveal BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

The latest round of spy shots reveals a heavily camouflaged BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe being tested on public roads.

The vehicle's design is similar to the Gran Coupe for the 2017 BMW 4 Series and 2017 BMW 6 Series. However, the BMW 2 Series version has a more upright greenhouse with shorter rear and front overhangs. It is also suspected that the model will have a rear hatch, similar to the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The prototype seen in test photos also appears to be an M variant due to the presence of blue brake calipers, a larger air intake, and a lower front fascia.

Not much else is known, but some observers believe the model will be slightly longer than both the BMW 2 Series Convertible and Coupe. Another speculation is that it will be based on a front-drive platform utilizing the UKL platform. Both the BMW 2 Series Convertible and Coupe are rear-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive option, though, may be an available option. As for the engine, we suspect a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW brand is on a roll right now. In addition to the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the auto manufacturer is also doing well in its native Germany. The brand just took home a total of six awards from the German auto magazines, CHIP and Auto Motor Und Sport. One of the awards include the Connected Car of the Year, which was awarded to the 2018 BMW 5 Series. Learn more about the awards the BMW brand took home by visiting the official BMW blog.
