Major Changes Announced for the 2018 BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 series is the German automaker's flagship vehicle, which is why changes and updates are especially anticipated for the 2018 model. So, how does the upcoming model differ from the 2017 BMW 3 series?

The most significant changes are the LED headlights and the backup camera, both of which will now come as standard equipment. It will also receive the latest version of the iDrive with touchscreen capabilities. The car's traffic reporting technology has also been updated using new car-to-car communication technology.

Finally, the brand has announced the release of the all-new 2018 BMW 3 series Shadow Sport Edition. This edition will boast some noticeable aesthetic changes, including a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, dark head and taillight accents, a gloss-black grille surround and air-dam inserts, and 18-inch black wheels.

The 2018 model will also be slightly larger. The length has been extended by 60 millimeters. Despite the slight size increase, the overall weight is expected to be about 88 pounds lighter. This is made possible thanks to the CLAR platform.
The powertrain will remain more or less the same. This includes the BMW 3 series Gran Turismo with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that delivers 320 hp. Buyers also have the choice of the BMW 3 series 330e plug-in hybrid that gets power from the combined input of an electric motor and turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine. As with the 2017 model, a diesel engine will be available as well.

The 2018 BMW 3 series will be arriving soon at BMW of Asheville. Until then, why not stop by and speak with one of our BMW dealers serving Hendersonville, NC? You can learn all about the 2018 inventory that is pending release.
