What We Know About the 2019 BMW X5

BMW vehicles typically see a new generation model every seven years. The BMW X5 series, though, will be getting a new generation a bit sooner. This model is currently in its third-generation and was introduced in 2014. The fourth-generation, however, is slated for a 2018 arrival as a 2019 model.

The 2019 BMW X5 will see some major changes. The most notable is that it will be built on the same Cluster Architecture platform that made its debut on the 2016 BMW 7 series and has since appeared on the 2017 BMW 5 series.

The Cluster Architecture is known as CLAR and is a BMW-exclusive platform that uses lightweight material, such as carbon fiber, magnesium, and aluminum. It will also use commonplace steel for maintaining a light base weight while retaining good tensile strength and rigidity.

The CLAR platform is also already in use for the 2018 BMW X3. The German automaker also confirmed that the platform will be used for the upcoming BMW X7, slated for a 2018 launch.

As for the engine options, buyers will have the same choice as they do for the 2018 BMW 5 series. This includes the standard four-cylinder engine with the option to upgrade to a six-cylinder engine or 8-cylinder engine. It is also expected that a hybrid variant will be available.

Spy shots have also captured test mules of a prototype BMW X5 M, so keep a lookout for that as well. Redesigned versions of the BMW X4 and BMW X6 are also expected for 2019.
